Welcome to Issue No. 5 of the current E-Zine online magazine of the Institute. [See October 15 for #4 the last one in this series].
Inspired by Neutra at 76 and the Institute's upcoming SUNDAYS IN MARCH WITH THE NEUTRAS event,
Despite my statements last year of not doing another event for 25 years, here we are again!
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 3 from noon to 5:30! This will be the first of a series of four Sunday open houses at which you can see both the VDL Research House as well as the Neutra Office Building. The first Sunday will feature the launch of the first piece of Neutra furniture of the new century! We will unveil a new iteration of the Neutra Boomerang Chair along with previews of 'NeutraFace' a new font, both courtesy House Industries of Delaware.
In addition, on display will be examples of Richard Neutra drawings; both building renderings as well as travel sketches, some of which will be auctioned off at the end of the afternoon. As of this writing, here's the time schedule we envision.
12:00-2:00 tour VDL at 2300 Silverlake Blvd. Admission $8. [The house will
remain open until 6:00].
2:00 Neutra Office Building opens. Open Institute meeting at 3:00 to discuss
projects and the future. 4:00 Auction of drawings, tours, reception and refreshments
until 5:30; more tours of VDL. Donation at Neutra Office Building $15 for admission
and renewal of your Institute membership for fiscal 2002; 4/1/02-3/31/03. Orders
will be taken for signed and numbered copies of the Boomerang Chair.
The Neutra Office Building exhibition will be open as will be the VDL House the same hours on March 10, 17 and 24. On March 24 at 3:00PM I, Dion Neutra, will give an in-studio talk on the state of the Neutra practice and the future of the Institute. There will be a reception and discussion afterwards with refreshments.

I taped an interview for an Orange County talk show on 12/1. We addressed some
of the OC local issues on that occasion. I believe this show which is called
'Dialogue with Jim Doti' will air on OC's PBS station, KOCE on Saturday, February
9 at 5:30PM, with a repeat on Monday, February 11 at 12:30PM. We hope to have
the text available on our website later this month.
The Von Huene Cabin in Mammoth, which is capable of moving, was threatened with demolition. Since our announcement last time, it appears that ownership has changed and the new owners intend to use the building more or less in its current form. I would wish they would contact me for advice!
The Gettysburg Cyclorama continues on the hit list of the National Park Service, as does the reflection pool at Orange County Courthouse.

Wasser, Steine, Licht' in English; maybe even 'Survival Through Design' [some
interest was being shown by two publishers; seems stalled at the moment]

Chicago, Brazil, what next?
Documentary Film In the works; very slow.

Membership Roster; E and Snail mailing lists
Institute E-Zine project [Can always use help here and elsewhere; drop
us a line!]
The Ultimate CAD program - Article by DN; about 2000 words. In commemoration
of Kubrick's '2001-A space Odyssey' . Can we NOW invoke the services of the
computer to fulfill the promise of RJN s book 'Survival through Design'? Looking
for a publisher. We may self publish, on our own Website first.
A REAL patients Bill of Rights. Start by ordering Dan Haley's red book
'The Politics in Healing'. Mention you heard about it here, and call 800 898
0639. Join with us to urge passage of relevant bills in congress which would
pave the way for alternative means of treatment to become available here, which
have been driven off-shore, or which are unknown to your family doctor. [See
our bookstore page for more details].
The NEW Survival Through Design. John Robbins 'The FOOD REVOLUTION'.
Recently finished reading this. In his way, John is writing his version of STD.
It's a clarion call for change in our time, much as RJN did in his. We intend
to feature this book in our bookstore much like Haley's. Meanwhile, you can
probably order it on amazon.com or call 800 685 9595 x7192.
Sunday in March with Neutras. Spring event of the Institute. You are invited to participate and renew.
We would welcome your suggestions of other departments or issues to consider.
Meanwhile, this will further test our data-base. Please let us know if you get more than one copy of this [if so, please excuse]. Spread the word to your friends who may have signed up with you, to let us have their E addresses if they did not receive this. Encourage new prospects to sign up with us [see home page]. Unfortunately, if we don't have an Email for a member, he/she will not receive this publication.
We hope to publish every few months depending on need, available material, and time. Stay tuned to the website for relevant details of upcoming events.
