Neutra Institute/Museum, Earthday 2016

Richard Neutra founded his firm in 1926 while he was still living in the Schindler House. Shortly thereafter, came the birth of his second son, Dion. In this time, he and Schindler produced a fabulous design for what they called 'The World Fashion Corner Store', at the NW corner of Hollywood and Vine. The collapse of that partnership, saw Neutra started on his first major solo project the Jardinette Apartments (1927) not that far away, also in Hollywood. A couple of years later, the Lovell Health House (1929). After a distinguished 40 years, he invited his architect son in as partner and vice president in 1965. Dion has carried on the firm since his father's death in 1970. Believe it or not, he is still accepting design or consulting commissions!

In 2012, we marked Richard Neutra's 120th birthday with the first 'Running'. That Earth Day, April 22 we marked 42 years since the first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, just a week after Neutra's death. He would have been so proud! In the aftermath of our fledgling day of events, of Earth Day 2012, the Institute had looked ahead to continue to sponsor 'Neutra run-walks for HEALTH' on the Sundays closest to Earth Day each year. By 2015, celebrating Neutra's 123rd, the response had dwindled to such an extent that we've had to re-evaluate. Click on what we think we can better manage on Saturday and Sunday, April 23-4, 2016. Please do calendar your events early and plan to join us?

Note that even if you are unable to attend in person, you can support our efforts virtually! Click on the first button below!

Thank you for your continued tax deductable support of the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design, and its new NEUTRA INSTITUTE MUSEUM OF SILVER LAKE. Proceeds will continue to go towards causes of preservation, with special emphasis continuing on into next year towards the events to be scheduled for Earthday week, ending Sunday, April 23, 2017 and 'Preserving VDL'. This iconic monument will continue to be in need of repairs of all kinds, and desirably an endowment!
